Abstract

Introduction

Cisplatin is one the most important cancer chemotherapy agents that uses for two decades. neuropathic pain induced by this agent should be considered in patient cares. the aim of this investigation was to compare calendula officinalis (co) and matricaria chamomilla (mc) antinociceptive effects on cisplatin induced neuropathic pain in mice.

Methods

In this experimental intervention study nmri male mice were used. animals were divided into 6 groups randomly: the first group received saline normal; the second group received mc hydroalcoholic extract; the third group received cisplatin, the fourth group received mc hydroalcoholic extract and cisplatin, the fifth group received co hydroalcoholic extracts and sixth groups received co hydroalcoholic extract and cisplatin. formalin pain test were performed. time course data were analyzed using one-way anova followed by tukey’s post hoc test.

Results

Results showed that formalin induced significant (p < 0.05) pain response (biphasic). administration of mc and co extract before formalin injection showed significant (p < 0.05) decrease of pain responses. administration of cisplatin produced significant (p < 0.05) increase in both pain phases response. injection of mc and co extract with cisplatin together have shown that mc is able to decrease the first and second phase but co is able to decrease the second phase of cisplatin-induced pain significantly (p <0.05).

Conclusion

Mc and co hydroalcoholic extract is able to decrease cisplatin-induced pain and inflammation. but it seems mc extract has better effects than co extract.
