Abstract

Introduction

Aim:escherichia coli is one of the most important bacterial pathogens causing urinary tract infections (utis) . this bacteria affecting both male and female individuals with different ages.the aim of this study was to assess genetic diversity of escherichia coli isolated from urinary tract infections in patients with different ages by enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus (eric-pcr) technique.

Methods

A total of 70 e. coli isolates from urine samples were obtained from hospitalized patients who were diagnosed with urinary tract infection in ghaem hospital in mashhad. collected isolates were confirmed by standard microbiology methods. genetic diversity of isolates were evaluated by using eric-pcr analysis.

Results

All isolates grouped into 11 clusters using eric-pcr based on different banding pattern . all isolate showed 1-8 bands with 100 to 2700 base pairs. cluster8 was the most common cluster (32.86%) including women(73.91%) and man (26.09%) with different ages .

Conclusion

Our results showed high genetic diversity of isolates between and within patients with different ages.
