Abstract

Introduction

Saffron is a small herb of the welsh family. this is a plant with spherical onions which surrounded by a brown membrane. from the middle of the onions a few leaves and from the middle of the leaves one to three flowers come out. each flower has 6 purple petals. each flower also contains three flags and one pixel. flags are used as a saffron

Methods

In this paper, we have tried to collect information about the antibacterial properties of this plant. these articles collected and selected from various journals.

Results

Saffron has an inhibitory effect on the growth of many bacteria and has a high value compared with many antibiotics. . it has been shown that the antibacterial properties of safranal are stronger than other compounds and also the flag extract has antimicrobial properties more than other parts of the plant but the stigma steriol extract (fat in saffron) has a strong antifungal effect

Conclusion

Comparison of the antibacterial effects of saffron extract with antibiotics shows that antibiotics can be replaced by this plant. for example, the effect of saffron extract on s. aureus is similar with antibiotic erythromycin. but this topic is more controversial and efforts should be made to use the plant to treat bacterial diseases instead of antibiotics.
