Abstract

Introduction

Parkinson's disease (pd) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease. due to its unknown etiology and pathology, there are no definitive diagnostic tests and causal therapies for this condition available. today, micrornas as gene regulators that involved in a wide range of biological processes and pathological conditions, are very much considered. some mirnas have also been introduced as diagnostic biomarkers for pd, which understanding of their pathways will be helpful. the purpose of the present study was to conduct a bioinformatics analysis to predict the targets of two mirnas, which has been introduced as diagnostic biomarkers in previous studies, to better understand the mrna-mirna interactions in pd pathology.

Methods

In the present study, a list of genes associated with parkinson's disease was selected from the literature, and the interactions between these genes and two selected mirnas were investigated in the computational tools for mirna target prediction, i.e., mirwalk2.0, targetscanhuman7.0, diana-tarbasev7.0 and mirtarbase.

Results

Based on the results, two mirnas, mir-21 and mir-103a, target the important factors involved in cell death pathway including pro-apoptotic and anti-apoptotic factors, which indicates the double-edged role for these two mirnas in regulation of the cell death pathway.

Conclusion

Determination of introduced mirna-mrna interaction effects on cell death pathways in future studies will help to better understanding of cell death process in this disease. also, the importance of these two micrornas, given the double-edged role of them on the cell death pathway can be remarkable for therapeutic purposes.
