Acinetobacter baumannii is a gram negative bacteria, which is cause multidrug-resistant nosocomial infection. control and treatment of infections induced by acinetobacter baumannii is a major problem due to development of a rapid resistance. the aim of present study was to investigate the acinetobacter baumannii antibiotic resistance in the different section of the hospital
Methods
In this cross-sectional study, 71 isolates of acinetobacter were collected from urine, blood, wound, aspirated sputum, ascites and trachea in 2015-2016. identification of isolates at the genus level were performed by standard biochemical methods and at the species level by polymerase chain reaction (pcr) . finally, antibiotic susceptibility was determined against antibiotics.
Results
: according to the antibiotic susceptibility testing, 65 isolates (94.2%) out of 69 acinetobacter baumannii isolates were resistant to ceftazidim which was the highest rate of resistance. the lowest resistance was related to polymyxin b and all isolates were susceptible to this antibiotic.
Conclusion
: it can be concluded that, prescribing and overusing of antibiotics have led to increased resistance of opportunistic pathogens. colistin and polymyxin b are the only effective antibiotics against acinetobacter baumannii. accordingly, combination of these antibiotics along with others might be useful for treatment of the infections.
