Abstract
Introduction
Cardiovascular disease is one of the main cause of death in all around the world and researches indicated that in united states heart disease leading to kill 321,000 men in 2013—that’s 1 in every 4 male deaths. androgens are one of the volunteer genes that cause variety of disease and disadvantages in elder men. receptor of androgen mediated the genomic effect of androgen and the number of triplet repeat of cag in first exon of receptor can be different in each person. in this study we want to know the relationship between cag repeats and coronary artery disease in men.
Methods
We investigated the association between number of cag repeats in first exon of androgen receptor and coronary heart disease in 147 men (102 cases and 45 controls). blood sample gathered from subjects, the number of triplet repeats is gained with chain termination dideoxy sequencing.
Results
The number of cag repeat in ar gene significantly have relationship with cardiovascular disease (p-value= 0.0001, or= 0.79) and the mean of repeats was 16.08 in cases. on the other hand, low level of testosterone and estrogen (test or= 0.782, est or= 0.955) is gained in our study.
Conclusion
Fewer cag repeats and low level of estrogen and testosterone of plasma are associated with a risk factor of coronary heart disease. recent experiments suggested that testosterone and estrogen therapy in elderly men might reduce the incidence of heart attacks but further studies with a broad range of participant in variety of cases with different races is needed.
